.eu

.eu is the domain extension associated with the European Union and is managed by EURid. Registrations for .eu domains ar elimited to infividuals or companies located in a member state of the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, or Norway.

Registration

• A .eu domain may contain a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 63 characters.
• Emojis are not available for .eu domains. However, the use of special characters/punycode is possible. A comprehensive overview of which extensions allow which special characters can be found on the website of IANA, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority.
• .eu domain registrations are annual and are automatically renewed at the end of the registration period of a year.
• A requirement for registering a .eu domain is that you, as an individual or a company, are located in a member state of the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, or Norway. This means that the address in your registrant data must be in one of these countries.
  • If you live outside the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, or Norway but hold one of these nationalities, you can still aplly for a .eu domain. In this case, please contact support.

Transfers

• The transfer of a .eu domain is always done with a transfer code. You can always request this at your current registrar. More information about transferring your domain name can be found here.
• Once the correct transfer code is used, the transfer will take place almost immediately.

WHOIS

• You can update all WHOIS data of your domain via the control panel. Follow the steps in the article 'Changing the registrant (owner) of your domain name'.
• .eu domains do not have an administrative contact in their WHOIS details.
• It is mandatory to always use correct WHOIS information. The EURid registry will perform random checks on the WHOIS information of .eu domains. They send an email from whoisaccuracy@eurid.eu to the holder's email address and aks to verify your identity through their portal. More information about these steps can be found on the EURid website.
  • Make sure to follow up on this verification as soon as possible to prevent your domain name form being suspended or even revoked.

Other

• When you cancel a .eu domain name, the domain enters a Quarantine period (also known as 'Redemption period') for 40 days. During these 40 days, the domain can still be restored. After the 40-day period, the domain becomes available for registration again. The registry charges fees for reactivating domains, which is why reactivating will cost €50,- excl. VAT (€60,50 incl. VAT).
  • Reactivating a .eu domain previously not registered at TransIP is possible, but you do need the transfer code from the current registrar.
