    .uk

.uk is the domain extension of the United Kingdom and is managed by the registry Nominet. .uk has only been around since 2014, before that the most commonly used extension for the UK was .co.uk.

On this page you will find all the information about .uk domains that you register with TransIP.

    Registration

    • A .uk domain may contain a minumum of 3 and a maximum of 63 characters.
    • Emojis are not available for .eu domains. The use of special characters/punycode is also not possible.
    • .uk domain registrations are annual and are automatically renewed at the end of the registration period of a year.
    • The name of the registrant and the company name (if applicable) must be at least 4 characters.

    Transfers

    • .uk domains are not transferred using a transfer code. Instead, you request the domain to be registered at your new registrar, after which your current registrar has to change the IPS-TAG or REGISTRAR-TAG.
      • If you are transferring your domain name to TransIP, your current registrar needs to change the IPS-TAG/REGISTRAR-TAG to KEY-SYSTEMS-DE after you have requested the domain name with us.
      • If you are transferring your domain name away, you need to request the IPS-TAG/REGISTRAR-TAG from your new registrar. We can then adjust it for you.
      • After requesting the domain name with a new registrar, the IPS-TAG/REGISTRAR-TAG must be changed within 5 days, otherwise the transfer will fail and you will need to request it again.
    • When you want to transfer a .uk domain between TransIP accounts, it is not possible to do so via the method mentioned above. Instead, you can transfer the domain by pushing it to the other TransIP account using a handover.

    Other

    • When you cancel a .uk domain name, the domain enters a Quarantine period (also known as 'Redemption period') for 28 days. During these 28 days, the domain can still be restored. After the 28-day period, the domain becomes available for registration again.
      • The registry charges fees for reactivating domains.
    • You can use a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 10 nameservers for .uk domains.
