The difference and similarities between a snapshot and a backup for your VPS

We automatically create backups of all VPSs within our network. These backups are created every 4 to 6 hours with a maximum retention of 36 to 54 hours (spread over 9 backups).

We also offer an option to manually create a snapshot of your VPS. Below we provide an overview of the similarities and differences between both:

    The similarities

    • Available backups and snapshots of your VPS can be restored as you desire.
    • The technology behind creating a backup and a snapshot (ZFS) is the same.
    • VPS firewall settings remain intact when restoring a backup or snapshot; they're not reverted to the state they were when the backup or snapshot was made.
    • Backups and snapshots can't be downloaded as they're finetuned to our platform.
