    .net

On this page, you will find all the information about .net domains that you register with TransIP. Please note that different registrars may have different procedures. If your domain is not registered with TransIP, please consult your own domain registrar.

For .net registrations, we have transitioned to a new domain provider. This means that the procedures for confirming a transfer to another registrar and changing owner details for new .net registrations have changed compared to the old situation.

You can verify this by looking up the WHOIS information of your .net domain.

    • If the registrar is listed as 'Key-Systems', then the old situation applies. In this case, you can confirm a transfer to another registrar and change the owner details via your control panel.
    • If the registrar is listed as 'REGISTER S.P.A.', then the new situation applies. This article assumes the new situation.

    Registration

    • A .net domain can contain a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 63 characters.
    • Emojis are not available for .net domains. However, the use of special characters/punycode is possible. A comprehensive overview of which extensions allow which special characters can be found on the website of IANA, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority.
    • .net domain registrations are annual and are automatically renewed at the end of the registration period of a year. However, we still inform you, in accordance with the rules of the overarching register ICANN, about the renewal date via email.
      • Please note that the expiration date in the WHOIS data and the renewal date of your domain in your control panel may differ. This occurs if the domain has been transferred in the past. In your control panel, you can always find the leading renewal dates of your domains.

    Transfers

    • You transfer a .net domain with a transfer code. You can find this in your control panel.
    • When transferring to another registrar, the owner of the domain name will receive an email allowing you to accept or reject the transfer.
      • If the domain owner accepts the transfer, it will take place immediately.
      • If the domain owner rejects the transfer, the transfer will not take place.
      • If the domain owner neither accepts nor rejects the transfer, the transfer will still take place after 5 days.

    WHOIS

    • Valid WHOIS data is necessary for registrant email verification. You can change this data following the steps in this Knowledge Base article.
      • If the email verification is not successfully completed, the domain will not be accessible until verification is done.
      • Email verification is per email address and not per domain. This means that if you have multiple domains with the same email address, you only need to perform the verification once.

    • When changing owner details, both the current and the new owner will receive an email to confirm the change. The data will only be changed when the change is accepted via both emails. This applies to changing the company name, first and last name of the registrant, and the email address of the registrant.

      • Note: Even if you do not change the email address, and only change the company name or first and last name, you will still receive two emails at the same email address to confirm the change. To proceed with the change, you must accept the change via both emails.
      • If the current email address of the registrant is not reachable, it is not possible to confirm the change. In this case, please contact our support department via the 'Contact us' button at the bottom of this page.

    • WHOIS data is automatically hidden for a .net domain. You can make your WHOIS data public upon request.
    • .net domain registrations are not tied to a country or region and are therefore available for registration worldwide.

    Other

    • When you cancel a .net domain name, the domain enters a Quarantine period (also known as 'Redemption period') for 30 days. During these 30 days, the domain can still be restored. After the 30-day period, there are 5 days during which the domain cannot be restored; after these 5 days, the domain becomes available for registration again.
      • The registry charges fees for reactivating domains, which is why reactivating is €100,- excl. VAT (€121,- incl. VAT).
      • reactivation is only possible for .com domains previously registered with TransIP.
    • After registration, transfer, or changing the owner details (this applies to changing the company name, first and last name, and the email address of the registrant), there is a 60-day transfer lock in effect. During the transfer lock period, you cannot transfer the domain to another registrar.
    • You can use a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 13 nameservers for a .net domain name.
