Add an extra website to your web hosting package

With a Pro or Max Web Hosting Package, you have the option to host multiple websites on a single web hosting package. In addition to extra websites on subdomains, you can also host websites for other domain names. The extra websites are separate from your main website to which the package is linked and have their own site path/DocumentRoot within your web space.

The extra websites are referred to as subsites in the control panel because they share PHP settings and caching with the rest of the websites on the web hosting package.

    Important:

    • It is not possible to create mailboxes for subsites that you add to your web hosting package. If you want to send emails with your extra website, make sure you have an email package active on the corresponding domain name.

    • iubenda is separate from a web hosting package and applies to a domain name along with its associated subdomains. For an additional website with a different domain name, a separate iubenda package is required.

    • When you have LiteSpeed or Patchman active on your web hosting package, it will also work with the additional websites you add to the package.

    Adding a Website

    Step 1

In your control panel, go to 'Shared Hosting' via the left menu. Then click on your domain name under 'Products'.

Click on 'Site' at the top, then on 'Domains & SSL'. Now click the ‘+ Add website’ button next to 'Websites'.

    Step 2

Select the domain name for which you would like to add a website and click ‘Next’.

Select whether you would like to use the main domain or a subdomain. In our example we are adding a website for the subdomain blog.transiptutorials.com.

If you leave ‘Use generated path’ checked, a folder will be automatically created for your website in your /subsites/ directory with the name of the (sub)domain. This folder will also serve as the DocumentRoot. You can also choose your own folder by unchecking the box.

Your website will be created as soon as you click ‘Save’.

    Step 3

You can now manage your website via the File Manager by visiting the folder that was created during step 2. You can find the folder within the ‘/subsites/’ folder, unless you can changed the path manually.

You can also install WordPress on your newly created website. Follow the steps in the article ‘Installing WordPress on a web hosting package’ and select your new site during step 2: Coose CMS.

    Change Your DNS Settings

You have now added an extra website to your web hosting package and possibly provided it with content. If this content is not immediately visible when visiting the (sub)domain, change the DNS settings of your domain name.

If your domain name uses the DNS settings of your web hosting package, your (sub)domain will become visible almost immediately. If you use an external nameserver or if your domain name is registered with another provider, you will need to add the correct A-records yourself.

If you have previously modified your domain name's DNS, ensure that you create an A-record for your (sub)domain.

    • For a domain name: Enter ‘@’ as the name, use the type 'A', and enter the IP address of your web hosting package as the value.
      • To make your main domain accessible with www, add a DNS record with the name 'www'. Then select CNAME as the type and '@' as the value. This ensures that the DNS record for the 'www' subdomain always points to the same record as the A and/or AAAA record for your main domain. a to www record
    • For a subdomain: Enter only the subdomain as the name, use the type 'A', and enter the IP address of your web hosting package as the value.

You can find the IP address of your web hosting package by clicking the 'three dots' next to your (sub)domain in the 'Domains & SSL' overview, followed by 'Show IP addresses'.

    Removing an Extra Website

Do you want to remove one of your extra websites? Click on the three dots next to your (sub)domain, followed by 'Delete website'.

Note: The folder containing your website files will not be deleted from the file manager.
